Use It or Lose It.

A Total-Body Workout Designed to Keep You Moving

Elder Fit at GriffonRawl Combat Sports & Fitness is a fun, challenging, total-body fitness program built around a simple idea: use it or lose it. Staying active matters, and our goal is to give people a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable place to keep moving, learning, and improving.

The majority of the program is designed around lower-impact training, and our coaches do their best to modify exercises and work around individual limitations or previous injuries. Lower impact does not mean ineffective or easy. Elder Fit can challenge people who are already in good shape while still allowing someone who is returning to exercise to work at an appropriate level.

Fitness With a Combat-Sports Twist

Elder Fit is not a fighting class, and there is no live fighting or sparring. Instead, we borrow fun and effective elements from the combat sports taught throughout GriffonRawl and turn them into a fitness-focused workout.

Participants can learn fundamental Boxing and Muay Thai movements and combinations while working pads and bags. We may also incorporate introductory MMA-style ground-and-pound movements performed on training bags. Techniques can be performed lightly and at an individual's own pace, allowing members to enjoy the coordination, conditioning, and mental challenge of combat-sports movements without needing to participate in contact training.

Low Impact - Still a Real Workout

Our coaches work to minimize unnecessary twisting, torque, and high-impact movements that may place additional stress on the knees, back, or other joints. Exercises can be adjusted based on the individual, and members are encouraged to communicate with the coaching staff about limitations or concerns.

At the same time, we want people to work. Classes are designed to get members moving, elevate the heart rate, burn calories, build endurance, and challenge the entire body. Everyone works at an appropriate pace, but everyone is encouraged to keep progressing.

Strength, Stability, Coordination & Confidence

Fitness is about more than what the scale says. Elder Fit is designed to help participants continue developing strength, cardiovascular fitness, stability, coordination, balance, body awareness, and confidence as they stay active.

Learning new movements and combinations also keeps the mind engaged. Remembering techniques, coordinating the hands and feet, moving through different exercises, and interacting with coaches and teammates provides a mental challenge alongside the physical workout.

Our goal is to help people maintain the physical capacity, confidence, and healthy habits that support an active lifestyle as they get older.

No Set Age - Find the Right Level for You

Despite the name Elder Fit, there is no strict age requirement. The program is a great option for older adults, but we also welcome younger people who may be returning to exercise, have become deconditioned, are working to manage their weight, or simply prefer a lower-impact approach to fitness.

You do not need to be in shape before joining. The purpose of the program is to help you start where you are and continue moving forward from there.

Community, Fun & Accountability

One of the most important parts of Elder Fit is the atmosphere. Members get to exercise around other people who are working toward similar goals, creating a social environment where people can encourage one another, laugh, learn something new, and stay accountable.

Head Coach Jason Dent believes in the program enough that his own mother and father participate in Elder Fit. We want the class to be something people look forward to—not something they dread.

That spirit is summed up by one of our Elder Fit shirt sayings: “I Didn't Hear No Bell.” Keep moving. Keep working. Keep showing up.

More Than the Class - Access to GriffonRawl Fitness

Elder Fit members are part of the larger GriffonRawl community. Our Strength & Conditioning area is available during scheduled Open Gym hours at no additional program charge, giving members another opportunity to continue working on their fitness outside of class.

Depending on the day and workout, Elder Fit may also utilize different areas of our large facility. That can include our Strength & Conditioning area or walking and light jogging through our 100-plus-foot connecting tunnel. Members can also take advantage of available training bags and other fitness amenities, including the sauna, during applicable Open Gym hours while the facility is open to the public.

Recommended Training Gear

Comfortable athletic clothing and a pair of clean gym shoes are recommended. Clean gym shoes are important because some workouts may move into our Strength & Conditioning area, where footwear is required for safety.

Because Boxing and Muay Thai fundamentals are incorporated into the workouts, we recommend that regular participants eventually have their own hand wraps and Boxing gloves.

New members do not need to purchase everything before beginning. GriffonRawl has a limited amount of loaner equipment available to help participants get started. Our on-site GriffonRawl Pro Shop stocks hand wraps, Boxing gloves, training apparel, and other fitness and training gear for members who want their own equipment.
